A prominent veterinarian and public health researcher, Dr. Dantas-Torres brings a wealth of experience and expertise, particularly in the field of parasitology.

His impressive academic credentials include a master’s degree in public health, two PhDs in Public Health and Animal Health and Zoonoses, and a specialisation in Veterinary Parasitology. Dr. Dantas-Torres is a key figure at the Aggeu Magalhães Institute (Fiocruz) in Recife, Brazil, where his research focuses on leishmaniasis, dirofilariosis, and other vector-borne diseases.

Leadership and Influence

His leadership roles are extensive. As the Chair of the Tropical Council for Companion Animal Parasites (TroCCAP) and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Parasites and Vectors, Dr. Dantas-Torres significantly influences research and policy in veterinary parasitology.
